Editorial Guidelines
Last updated: 26 March 2026
PickNBN is committed to providing Australians with trustworthy, data-driven information about NBN and internet services. These editorial guidelines outline the standards we uphold to ensure accuracy, transparency, and independence in everything we publish.
Our Standards
PickNBN is built on three core principles:
- Accuracy — Every data point we present is sourced from official, verifiable datasets. We do not fabricate, estimate, or editorially adjust data to suit a narrative.
- Independence — Our content is produced without influence from internet service providers, government agencies, or commercial partners. Our editorial decisions are made solely in the interest of our readers.
- Transparency — We openly disclose our data sources, methodology, commercial relationships, and any limitations in the information we provide.
Data Sources
PickNBN exclusively uses official Australian government and industry data to power our comparisons and analysis. Our primary data sources include:
- NBN Co — Network rollout data, technology type coverage, and service availability information.
- Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) — Demographic, geographic, and housing data used in suburb profiles and regional analysis.
- Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) — Broadband performance data, market monitoring reports, and consumer protection information.
We do not rely on unverified, crowd-sourced, or self-reported data. Where we reference provider-specific information such as plan pricing, we source it directly from provider websites and clearly note when it was last verified.
Editorial Independence
PickNBN is an independent publication. We are not affiliated with any internet service provider, NBN Co, or any Australian government agency.
Our content, rankings, and recommendations are determined by data and editorial judgement alone. No provider can pay for a higher ranking, favourable review, or preferential placement in our comparisons.
While we maintain affiliate relationships with some providers (see Affiliate Disclosure below), these relationships have no influence on our editorial content, data presentation, or recommendations.
Review Process
Our content is produced through a combination of automated data processing and editorial oversight:
- Data collection — Raw datasets are obtained directly from official sources (NBN Co, ABS, ACCC).
- Programmatic processing — Data is cleaned, normalised, and processed using automated pipelines to ensure consistency and reduce human error.
- Content generation — Suburb profiles, comparisons, and analysis are generated from processed data using standardised templates.
- Editorial review — All content is reviewed for accuracy, clarity, and completeness before publication.
This approach allows us to maintain accurate information across thousands of pages while ensuring editorial quality.
Corrections Policy
We take accuracy seriously and welcome feedback from our readers. If you believe any information on PickNBN is incorrect, outdated, or misleading:
- Report an error by emailing us at hello@picknbn.com.au with the page URL and a description of the issue.
- We will investigate all reports promptly and correct verified inaccuracies as quickly as possible.
- Where a significant correction is made, we will note the change and the date it was corrected.
We are committed to getting the facts right. If we make a mistake, we will fix it.
Update Frequency
The data on PickNBN is refreshed when new datasets are published by our official sources:
- NBN Co network data is updated as new rollout and coverage datasets are released.
- ABS data is refreshed following new Census releases or statistical updates.
- ACCC broadband performance and market data is updated as new reports are published.
We aim to process and publish updated data as soon as practicable after new datasets become available. The “last updated” date on individual pages indicates when the content was most recently refreshed.
Affiliate Disclosure
PickNBN participates in affiliate programs with selected internet service providers. This means:
- Some links on our site are affiliate links, clearly marked where they appear.
- If you click an affiliate link and sign up for a service, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.
- Affiliate revenue helps fund the operation of this site, allowing us to continue providing free, independent comparisons.
Importantly:
- Affiliate relationships do not influence our rankings, scores, or editorial content.
- Providers cannot pay for higher placement or more favourable coverage.
- We apply the same data-driven methodology to all providers, regardless of whether we have an affiliate relationship with them.
We believe in full transparency about how we fund our work, and we will always prioritise reader trust over commercial interests.
