Sydney is home to over 5 million people and hundreds of suburbs, but internet quality varies enormously across the metro area. We crunched the data on all 744 Sydney suburbs in our database to find the top 10 by internet quality score.
The good news? Sydney’s best suburbs all score a perfect 10 out of 10 — the highest possible rating on PickNBN. What sets them apart is their fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) infrastructure, which delivers the fastest and most reliable NBN connections available.

What makes these suburbs stand out?
Every suburb on this list has one thing in common: FTTP is the dominant network technology. Fibre-to-the-premises means a direct fibre optic cable runs all the way to your home, eliminating the old copper bottleneck. This unlocks NBN speed tiers up to 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps) — fast enough for any household use case.
Blacktown: Sydney’s internet champion
Blacktown tops the list with an extraordinary 97.7% FTTP coverage across its 22,042 premises. As one of Sydney’s largest suburbs by population, this is a significant achievement. Nearly every household in Blacktown has access to the fastest NBN technology available, making it one of the best-connected suburbs in the entire country.
The western Sydney corridor
It’s striking that the top 10 is dominated by western and south-western Sydney — Blacktown, Liverpool, Penrith, Campbelltown, Austral. These areas have benefited from newer housing developments that were built with FTTP from the ground up, rather than being retrofitted from older copper networks. The NBN’s original fibre rollout prioritised greenfield estates, and western Sydney’s growth corridors were prime beneficiaries.
Strathfield and Lidcombe: inner-west surprises
Strathfield and Lidcombe are notable inclusions from Sydney’s inner west. Both are well-established suburbs that received FTTP upgrades, with coverage at 64.7% and 82.4% respectively. Their mix of apartment complexes and houses means not every building has been upgraded yet, but the dominant technology is firmly FTTP.
Wentworth Point: the apartment success story
Wentworth Point is Sydney’s most prominent high-density FTTP success. This modern suburb on the Parramatta River was purpose-built with fibre infrastructure, and its 8,518 premises enjoy full NBN gigabit capability. It’s proof that apartment living doesn’t have to mean compromised internet — when the building has FTTP, residents get the same speeds as houses.
How many Sydney suburbs score a perfect 10?
Our data shows that 108 Sydney suburbs achieve a perfect 10.0 internet score. That’s about 14.5% of all metro suburbs — meaning the majority of Sydney is still served by older technologies like FTTN, HFC, or FTTC that cap speeds well below gigabit.
What about the eastern suburbs and north shore?
Sydney’s affluent eastern suburbs and north shore tend to score well but not perfectly. Many are served by HFC (hybrid fibre-coaxial, the old Foxtel cable network) or FTTN, which top out at lower speeds. Suburbs like Mosman, Bondi, and Manly typically score between 6 and 8 out of 10 — good, but not in the top tier.
The bottom line
If you’re moving to Sydney and fast internet is a priority, western Sydney offers the best bang for your buck. The suburbs along the M4 and M7 corridors — from Blacktown through to Campbelltown — have some of the best NBN infrastructure in the country, combined with more affordable housing than the eastern suburbs.
